The second day of fasting

Today was quite easy…still only managed to drink 2 cups instead of 4 of the salt water. They say you can replace the salt water with the laxative tea…so I am drinking a bit of that to make up for the other 2 cups of salt water. I spent quite a while on the toilet in the morning…in about 3 visits! During the day, I felt quite tired, low energy. Manu and I went shopping, but the heat got to us. We somehow made it back home. We took a nap. At around 7:30 we met up with friends (Marie-Eve and Nisha) at Bastille to watch the football match between Brazil and France in a restaurant–bar with lost of “ambiance”, as the French call it. It was hardest for me to not give in to food. Out of the four of us, only Manu and Marie-Eve would be eating. And since it was a big football match, lots of people were out looking for a good table in front of large TV screens. The waiters were giving priority to front row tables to real eaters, and not to fasters hiding homemade lemonade in their bags. We divided the task of ordering the dishes between the four of us. Of course Nisha and I were just pretending that we were actually going to consume them, we discreetly gave them to Manu. I felt tempted to eat; I mean, who accepts to go to a restaurant while fasting! Plates of deliciously looking food and a wild range of to-die-for desserts were flying past my eyes every freaking minute!! I thought, well maybe if I eat a little tonight, I can start fresh tomorrow morning, I’d only be delaying the fast by 2 days…so why not… No way! Thanks to Nisha who wasn’t going to give in to food after fasting for 5 days, I stuck out my goal of fasting for 8 more days only. The French team won and there was so much “ambience", everyone was jumping up and down, cheering, chanting, shouting, and singing songs. Especially Manu, he was elated that his country won. We went out into the streets; they were jam-packed with people. Especially at Bastille, there were thousands of football fans everywhere, hundreds were climbing the monument in the middle of the round-about, others were celebrating in the middle of the streets, cars and buses could barely move! It was an event I’ve never experienced before. The French surely know how to have spirit and support their football team. Another crazy adventure we had was taking the metro home. It took us about 30 minutes more than usual. I have never been so sandwiched between people on public transportation before, even in India, it wasn’t this crammed. We were all sweating onto each other; our clothes were getting more and more drenched. The only time we could breathe was when the doors finally managed to close shut without squishing someone, and the metro could take speed creating well-deserved wind for the lot of us. My being the average height, I had to stand on my “tippy” toes to get the air! Finally we made it home, showered and fell immediately asleep. I didn’t forget to take my laxative tea before going to bed!
