Girls with lots of free time
In both my grammar and conversation classes most of the students are expat women, around my age who either have a boyfriend or husband working here. They don't work, because they don't speak Spanish and don't have a working visa, take Spanish to keep occupied, and that's about it.
This scares me out of my witts.
I had lunch with a couple of the women after class in a fancy restaurant in Polanco near the school. Just hanging out, having a bite to eat. It was fun. But I couldn't help but think to myself, I don't want to be like this. A woman, following her man here with too much free time to fill. This kind of world is one which I want to avoid. It's so easy to follow a cushy expat lifestyle filled with comfort. But, that is not what I want. I want to be involved in the Mexican life here, with real local people. I need to find something where I feel useful. I know there is something out there for me...I must go out to meet people, the right people with an opportunity.

I understand exactly how you feel about this since my French class here is filled with other foreign women who followed their French husbands back to France. However, they are thankfully a little bit different since they try to find a job, or do something, but just can't because they don't have the level of French required and there is also limited employment opportunities in this small town. Hope you have better luck in Mexico though!
