At 11 am Saturday morning, decided to take the car for a ride to Puebla. Puebla is about 150 km from Mexico City. Stuck in traffic due to construction. Street vendors take advantage of the turtle slow flow of traffic to sell anything from plastic helicopters to pistachios, from comfy beaded car seat covers to refreshing popsicles. We purchased a map of the country from a friendly old tanned man! Finally arrived at around 2:30pm hungy. Found the restaurant we had read of in the GEO GUIDE, that is famous for its typical Pueblan-Mexican dishes. Check out what Manu ordered:
He was daring! It's called Chile en Nogada. It a chile, which is in season at the moment, filled with a mix of cooked fruit and meat inside, covered in a white sweet sauce, sprinkled with Chinese pomegranate. He could only stomach half of it. The menu was a little hard for me to read in detail, a little too creative for my tasting- eg. aunt eggs, bowel, brain of something...
Puebla is a colonial city, 4th largest in the country. It is 2160 m, surrounded by 3 volcanoes, still smoking. On the 5th of May, 1862, 2.000 men from the Mexican army defeated 6.000 invading French troops. The 5th of May is a national holiday and many streets bear that name throughout Mexico.
