La Malinche - 4462 metres

On my birthday weekend, we drove out of Mexico City (about 2.5 hours), plus traffic= 4 hours! We went past Puebla and Tlaxcala near a place called La Malinche. It's the 6th highest mountain in Mexico (4462 metres.) Manu's colleague organised it. We rented cabins in the forest. There was even a chimney, so we could make a fire to keep warm as it is chilly up there! As we were hiking, Manu and I were getting more and more tired, and almost losing courage to reach the summit....the altitud was hard to cope with...dizzy, short of breath, heart beating fast...but we managed....with lots of little breaks on the way to the top, and along with support from a kind Mexican couple who waited for us patiently, we finally made it! It was a hard one to hike! It took us 5 hours to hike up, and 2 to come down. The hike was just as hard as the hardest hike during the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal at 5416 metres. In total, we were 11 people and two wild dogs who joined us on the hike to the very top, amidst the clouds!
